Frequenlty Asked Questions

3. What is the dress code for dispatchers?

Agencies vary in dress code. Some require uniforms while others require only “business attire.” Many dispatch centers are very casual depending on your level of citizen contact. Some dispatchers have front counter responsibilities and as such, you need to be “neat and pretty”. Other centers are very secure facilities that hardly see a member of the general public except during tours or special visits. Some dispatch centers have little or no requirements for a uniform. Again, there are many flavors of dispatchers and dispatch centers.

This would be a valid question to ask when looking into the job. You also want to ask about uniform reimbursement. Though uniforms and dry cleaning are tax deductible for many employees, it’s better when the agency pays you or reimburses you for such costs.
