Frequenlty Asked Questions

1. Who are the highest paying agencies?

Don’t always look for the money in the 9-1-1 profession. Though there are some very high paid agencies in the San Francisco Bay area, your paycheck will go quickly with gas prices approaching $4 a gallon and the median home price well over $700,000. We strongly suggest you choose the part of the country you wish to live in first and then shop the agencies and their pay/benefits packages. You should also be very mindful of shift and schedule issues. Some dispatch centers work 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours or even 24 hour shifts. What will work best for you or your family? Some agencies also “bid shifts” by seniority and others rotate. You may find yourself working the overnight shift for quite awhile at some agencies. Look long range! You will have to work your way up the ladder and get to the shift or position you desire. Ask questions about benefit packages. These days, the medical and retirement benefits are as important as the hourly pay.
